Purchasing
a Puppy The
Education of Lacy Suggestions
and Hints for your new puppy: Add a few ice cubes to the drinking water for the first 2-3 days to make the water change adjustment easier. Make sure the puppy always has plenty of fresh water at all times. Use caution and patience with your puppy especially when climbing or descending stairs. Most joints are still forming through the age of twelve-eighteen months. To avoid stress on these joints, and possible damage, do not have the puppy jump up to get treats or toys, and limit activity with other dogs to the time you will be present to observe that rough play is under control. Do not scream or yell at your puppy, but do give your puppy lots of hugs, kisses and praise! Positive reinforcement for good behaviors works on the puppy's need to please you. Always make sure your current dog(s) get as much attention as the new puppy! This helps to avoid jealousy and displacement of the first dog(s), and avoids resentment and hostility toward the new puppy. |
